About Reorder PDF Pages
Reorder PDF Pages helps you fix the sequence of a report, application, booklet, or scanned document. Select your PDF and view thumbnails for up to 300 pages. Larger files show page numbers instead. Change the order by dragging pages, using earlier and later buttons, typing a sequence, or reversing the full document. You can type an order such as 3, 1, 2, 4-10. The tool then saves a new PDF with the pages in that sequence. It does not edit the content on any page. The tool runs in your browser, so your file is never uploaded. The finished PDF downloads straight to your device. This local workflow suits documents that should stay on your computer, including work files, forms, and personal records. You can check the page sequence before downloading the result.
How to use it
- 1Select a PDF from your device.
- 2Arrange pages by dragging thumbnails, using earlier or later, typing an order, or reversing the sequence.
- 3Check that the pages appear in the required order.
- 4Download the new PDF to your device.
Worked example
For a five-page PDF, type 3, 1, 2, 4-5. The downloaded PDF contains pages 3, 1, 2, 4, and 5, in that order. The page content itself is not changed.
How it works
Reordering uses an ordered sequence, or permutation.
Original pages:
P = [p1, p2, p3, ..., pn]
Desired output:
Q = [pσ(1), pσ(2), ..., pσ(m)]
σ is the desired page-index sequenceIf every original page appears exactly once, σ is a permutation of 1 through nOmitted indices delete pagesRepeated indices duplicate pages.
Example: input [p1,p2,p3,p4,p5], order 4,1,1,5 produces [p4,p1,p1,p5].
The PDF page tree defines the page sequenceA valid reorder keeps the page tree relationships and page count consistentPage objects and content streams can be reused or copiedReordering alone does not require rasterization or recompressionDestinations, bookmarks, annotations, form fields, logical structure, and accessibility tags may need checking after a reorderSource: Adobe PDF specification, Page TreePDF Association, Page Tree errataPDF Association, accessibility terminology. What it is good for
- Keep the PDF on your device because processing runs in the browser.
- Use thumbnails, buttons, typed orders, or reverse order controls.
- Download a new PDF without changing the pages themselves.
- Thumbnail previews cover up to 300 pages; larger files show page numbers.
- Reordering does not repair printed page numbers or accessibility reading order.
Questions people ask
How do I reorder PDF pages?
Select your PDF, then drag its pages into place. You can also use earlier and later buttons, type an order, or reverse the sequence. Download the new PDF when the order looks right.
Can I reorder PDF pages without uploading the file?
Yes. FreeToolr runs in your browser, and the file is never uploaded. The result downloads straight to your device.
Can I type the page order?
Yes. Enter an order such as 3, 1, 2, 4-10. This places page 3 first, followed by pages 1 and 2, then pages 4 through 10.
Can I reverse all PDF pages?
Yes. Use the reverse option to change the sequence from first-to-last to last-to-first. The page content is not changed.
How many pages can I see as thumbnails?
The tool shows thumbnails for up to 300 pages. Larger files show page numbers instead, so you can still set the order.
Will the printed page numbers change?
No. The tool moves complete PDF pages. Any page numbers printed within the page artwork stay the same, even when their position in the document changes.
Can I reorder a scanned PDF?
Yes. Reordering changes the sequence of complete pages and does not require text recognition. The scanned content on each page stays unchanged.
