About PDF to Excel
PDF to Excel turns text from a simple PDF table into an XLSX workbook and CSV file. It suits invoices, reports, price lists, schedules, and other PDFs with selectable text. The tool reads each line, places it in a row, and uses aligned gaps to estimate columns. Plain numbers become numeric spreadsheet values. You can choose one sheet for each page or combine all pages into one sheet. The process runs in your browser, so your PDF is never uploaded to a server. Your results download straight to your device. Unlike many converter pages, this tool clearly sets expectations: it is best for text PDFs created from spreadsheets or reports. Merged cells, multi-line cells, and scanned pages may produce poor results. Check totals, dates, row counts, and column alignment before using the spreadsheet.
How to use it
- 1Choose a PDF with selectable text from your device.
- 2Select one sheet per page or combine all pages in one sheet.
- 3Run the PDF to Excel conversion.
- 4Download the XLSX workbook or CSV file to your device.
- 5Check the rows, columns, numbers, and totals in your spreadsheet app.
Worked example
Input: a one-page PDF containing these lines: Item, Qty, Price; Pens, 3, 2.50; Paper, 2, 4.00. Result: the XLSX contains one sheet with three rows. The values 3, 2.50, 2, and 4.00 are stored as numbers when the extraction identifies them as plain numbers. The CSV contains the same extracted rows.
How it works
Best-effort table extraction: puts each line of PDF text in a row and splits it into columns where the gaps line up down the page, turns plain numbers into numbers, and downloads an .xlsx (one sheet per page or all in one) and a CSVWorks best on text PDFs made from a spreadsheet or report with simple tables; merged cells, multi-line cells and scanned PDFs do not convert wellRuns in the browser: files are never uploadedResults download straight to the deviceSource: Microsoft Power Query PDF connectorMicrosoft Power Query data sources. What it is good for
- Keeps processing in your browser, with no file upload.
- Downloads both XLSX and CSV results.
- Lets you use one sheet per page or one sheet for all pages.
- Scanned PDFs, merged cells, and multi-line cells may not convert well.
- The method extracts displayed text, so you should check totals, dates, and column alignment.
Questions people ask
How do I convert a PDF to Excel?
Choose a text-based PDF, select the sheet layout, and run the conversion. Download the XLSX file, then check its rows, columns, and values.
Can I convert a scanned PDF?
Scanned PDFs are image files rather than text files. This tool does not promise OCR, so scanned pages may not convert well.
Does the tool create XLSX and CSV files?
Yes. The result includes an .xlsx workbook and a CSV file. You can choose one sheet per page or combine all pages in one sheet.
Why do my PDF columns look wrong in Excel?
PDF files place text on a page instead of storing a normal spreadsheet grid. The tool estimates columns from aligned gaps, so irregular spacing, merged cells, and multi-line cells can shift values.
Will formulas from the original spreadsheet stay as Excel formulas?
No formula conversion is promised. The method extracts visible PDF text and turns plain numbers into numbers, so you may need to create new spreadsheet formulas.
What should I check after conversion?
Compare the row count with the PDF. Check totals, decimal values, dates, negative amounts, headers, and any rows that span multiple lines.
